My team has been working for the past 2+ yrs, successfully and to the client's content if i may say so. We've developed and supported many enhancements and critical functionalities as part of our project. We are a funds transfer system.

Now work is only a trickle, most work being Production support of the vast functionality. The client insists on reducing our production support team to nearly 1/3rd of what it is now. Though we can manage to reduce one or two resources by re-delegating tasks, our system is so huge that we are virtually sitting on a 100Gallon gas tank.

How do we justify our need - to maintain a fire brigade, when there is no fire?(My PM's Quote to the situation).
